No. Most building codes stipulate that, in human-occupied spaces, plastic foam insulation products such as foam board, spray foam or ICF blocks must have a thermal barrier installed over them that provides a minimum of 15 minutes of burn-time protection.

Trusscore Wall&CeilingBoard and Trusscore SlatWall are not rated thermal barriers. For walls and ceilings where this code stipulation applies and where plastic form insulation is intended to be installed, Trusscore products must be installed over top of a rated thermal barrier that has been installed as part of the wall assembly to meet these requirements.

Consult your local building code officials, as they are best able to provide guidance on the appropriate thickness and type of barrier to be used in any application.

Commonly available thermal barriers to discuss with your local building code officials include:

  • Rigid insulation panels
  • Plywood
  • OSB
  • Some thicknesses of finished drywall
  • Hardboard
  • Concrete
  • Masonry
